Entumbane-bred multi-talented artiste Mzoe 7 of the Asambeni fame has told B-Metro showbiz that he wants to achieve African icon status in five years.

This comes after he won big at two awards ceremonies, Zim Stars Awards for Best House Dance Act and winning the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards (RoilBAA) Outstanding Music Video.

The awards were held on 27 and 28 November at The Vista and Large City Hall, respectively.

As he has set aside the year 2020 to push his solo career, Mzoe 7 who is inspired by Nigerian legend Fela Kuti, believes the accolades he has won this year are proof that he can achieve anything, including being an African icon.

“This is my first year where I pushed myself as a solo brand, previously I was active more on collaborating with other artistes. The two accolades have given me so much hope and I now believe anything can be achieved, in five years I want to be an African icon like my inspiration Fela Kuti,” said Mzoe 7.

On the RoilBAA, Mzoe 7’s Asambeni music video faced stiff competition from Aspheli Moya (Asaph featuring Msiz Kay), Impilo (Sandra Ndebele featuring Vukani), I want it (Muse), Like So (Asaph) and Rain Maker (Djembe Monks).

He revealed that the accolade belongs to everyone who made the music video and the song a success.

“Without much help and dedication from Keaitsi Films who shot and directed the video, this accolade would have been won by someone. I really enjoyed working with Ras Quisity who directed the video. He respects people’s ideas and he is very flexible to work with as he always eliminates the box.

“Thandanani Women Ensemble also played an important role in the music video; they opened their arms to me and my ideas as their son and I will forever cherish the moments we shared during the shoots. Boom City, Klobber Fusion, Prince Eskhosini, DJ Mzoe, Extra Mile and Skaiva to mention a few also made this (winning the award) possible,” said Mzoe 7.

The audio of the song was produced by DJ Pressure with Vuyo Sax playing the saxophone and Shekinah playing the lead guitar. It was recorded and mastered at Flamers Studios.

Meanwhile, Mzoe 7 revealed that he is shooting three music videos which are set to be released this month.

“I am rounding off the year by shooting three music videos that will be released this month, not next year,” said Mzoe 7.
