BULAWAYO-based team Hokoyo Unimills Cycling continue to cement their place at the top of the game after sweeping medals at the Gweru/Bulawayo race.

Three cyclists – all from Hokoyo Unimills Cycling – made a compete sweep of the podium in the 170 plus race.

Andrew Chikwakwa and Nkulumo Dube both crossed the line in 3 hours, 47 minutes and 34 seconds in the Elite category.

Teammate Mthokozisi Sibanda kept close to the leading pack and finished the race in 3 hours, 50 minutes and 3 seconds to complete the all-Hokoyo Unimills Cycling team line-up.

In the boys juniors category, an 80 kilometre stretch, Charles Nesta was the toast of the day crossing the line in 2 hours, four minutes and 36 seconds to claim top spot.

Nesta is a Northlea High School pupil who signed for the Bulawayo cycling club last year.

More than 120 cyclists took part in the Gweru/Bulawayo race last weekend under various categories such as the juniors, veterans and elite.

Hokoyo Unimills Cycling coach Chris Kazingizi said conquering regional races was their next target.

“I’m so proud of the athletes for the commitment and discipline they have shown over the last few months.

“Coming into this race as defending champions, a lot of pressure was on us considering that we were competing against some of the best riders from Harare and Zvishavane.

“Our next target is to make a name for ourselves in regional races especially in Botswana and South Africa,” said Kazingizi.
