THE public was treated to free drama when a handcuffed suspect with blood-shot eyes kicked a police officer and hit him with fists leaving him wailing in agony on the ground.

The free ‘‘drama’’ that caught the attention of the public happened last week on Tuesday at a car park in Entumbane suburb.

A source close to investigations said the suspect who looked fearful and had seemed to face difficulty in disembarking from a police vehicle suddenly sprung a shock when he turned on an unsuspecting Constable Mgcinimuzi Siziba in full view of members of the public.

“It was an unusual sight that happened too fast, Lungani turned violent as he kicked the unsuspecting police officer on the shoulder while he was disembarking from the car,” said the source who requested not to be named.

According to the source, Lungani whose name literally means being polite acted against it as he went a gear up in pummelling the law enforcer.

“He hit him with fists on the face leaving him bleeding. Siziba was saved by his colleagues who grabbed Lungani and took him to a police station. He (Siziba) opened a case of assault against the accused who had been arrested for a case of domestic violence,” said the source. He was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident: “I can confirm that a police officer was assaulted by the accused who became violent. We would like to urge members of the public to co-operate with police when they are carrying out their duties.”
