ZIMBABWE’S young budding gymnast, Nontokozo Sibanda (13) is seeking funds ahead of the Region 5 Gymnastics Championship that are set to take place in Pretoria, South Africa from 9 to 14 December.
This will be Nontokozo’s second successive time to don national colours in gymnastics after her debut last year.
Nontokozo’s mother Miriam Sibanda said they were looking forward to raising a total of US$1 300 for Nontokozo’s travel costs as well as her participation at the esteemed championships.
“Nontokozo trains well but the main worry is that she won’t be able to participate at this year’s edition of gymnastics. If only sponsors and well-wishers could come aboard to assist us financially,” said Miriam.
Nontokozo started gymnastics when she was at Yellow Rose Nursery before she proceeded to North Park School in Mt Pleasant where her craft was perfected.
She is doing her Form One at Girls High School.
Nontokozo said she was hoping to bring more medals this year if she gets an opportunity to participate at this year’s championship.
“I hope to get individual medals in South Africa. I love gymnastics because you get a chance to turn the impossible and make it possible.
“I hope to get sponsorship to make my gymnastic journey a triumph,” she said.
Miriam said children were different, and parents must never push a child into academics only.
“It’s about identifying what your child loves doing and encouraging them towards achieving their goal,” she said.
