Gospel artiste shines despite challenges

There is a saying that goes: “The future rewards those who press on. You don’t have time to feel sorry for yourself. You don’t have time to complain. Every day you have to wake up and make a bold decision to press on.”

In light of that, the story of Engineer Panganai Muvhunzwi, 29, from Bulawayo, who has been making noticeable strides in the gospel music industry, makes interesting reading.

He has four albums out already.

Their titles are Ndimwari, Zvakazarurwa, Epikaizo and Kairos Time. On these albums he has featured Trymore Bande, Innocent Gakaka and Bethany Pasinawako.

Epikaizo was released two weeks back.

Epikaizo is a Greek word which means manifestation of Heaven on earth. In this album I was emphasising that Christians must focus on Christ only because that is where our help comes from when we face hardships,” said Muvhunzwi.

Since the launch of Epikaizo prominent gospel artistes like Mathius Mhere and Mai Margaret Mwamuka have expressed interest in collaborating with him.

Despite his current success, Muvhunzwi faced challenges to reach his goals.

“My mother and father separated when I was very young so I had to be raised by my grandmother. We used to stay in Gutu. My grandmother used to brew and sell traditional beer in order to get money for me to go to school. It was rather painful because people would laugh at us and call us all sorts of names,” said Muvhunzwi.

He added: “I started singing in church and I only managed to break into the music industry in 2013. Although I still face a lot of challenges in my career, I am determined to keep on uplifting God’s name through music.”
