FOLLOWING his stellar performance in the just-ended 2021/2022 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season, Chicken Inn towering central defender Itai Mabunu has extended his excellence of the field of play after tying the knot with his long-time sweetheart Fortune Chimunyu.
Now, the newlyweds can add “husband” and “wife” to their respective resumes. Mabunu (26) and Chimunyu (26), who are blessed with a nine months old baby boy named Tanaka, wed at Bulawayo’s Lindelnlane Gardens in Newton West.
“I’m feeling over the moon. I am so happy that Itai has kept his promise. I’m looking forward to a successful marriage with a man I love so much,” said an overjoyed Chimunyu.The two have been in a relationship since 2016 and on their wedding day former Highlanders midfielder Bukhosi “Zakhu” Sibanda and Bulawayo Chiefs player Malvern Mkolo were among the groom’s team.
Mabunu said the wedding made his “dream day a reality.”
‘It’s a dream that has come true for me. I could not wait for the day and I’m very grateful to my family members and my teammates at Chicken Inn. I’m also thankful to the club for giving financial support. I promise to love my wife and the entire family.
This was the most magical day of my life surrounded by the most incredible people. Thank you to everyone who made this special,” said the rock-solid defender.
Last month, Mabunu was named Gamecocks Most Improved Player at a function where goalkeeper Donovan Bernard emerged Player of the Year.
The second vice Captain Xolani “Lolo” Ndlovu was voted the Players’ Player of the Year.
