From Zvishavane to Iceland Silas Songani

FROM the hot desert weather of Sudan to the below zero temperatures of Iceland, one player — Silas Songani — can best be described as a man who will move mountains just to make it to the other side for “greener pastures”.

Many will remember when Songani briefly left FC Platinum for a move to Sudanese giants Al Hilal that never was and at one point he accused the club of ill-treatment while he was in the Sub-Saharan African country.

The year was 2020.

Songani had joined FC Platinum from a Danish club SønderjyskE, a club he had joined back in 2014 before leaving five years later.

Now another move from Zvishavane has materialised and the 32-year-old is on yet another journey to Iceland.

This time he is joining the country’s second tier side, Vestri.

The move will unite Songani with Warriors midfielder Kundai Benyu.

Vestri confirmed the move on their social media pages.

“The West has agreed with Silas Songani, a 32-year-old winger with 11 national games for Zimbabwe, who comes to us from FC Platinum. We warmly welcome Silas and look forward to seeing him in the costume of Vestri,” the club said.

The well-travelled forward arrives at the club as a free agent after leaving FC Platinum when his contract expired in December 2021.
