Five held up for stealing donkeys

FIVE men from Darstain Farm in Umguza, Matabeleland North province were arrested for allegedly stealing seven donkeys.

The quintuple, Madala Sibanda (40), Gift Ndlovu (37), Joseph Mpofu (18), Abednico Nleya (48) and Mlungisi Nleya (24) who are now facing stock theft charges were arrested on 12 June.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the arrest.

Allegations against the five suspects are that on the day in question and at around 7am the victims from Ntabazinduna area got information to the effect that their donkeys were seen being driven towards Bulawayo.

A follow-up was quickly made and the victims managed to catch up with the suspects in Umguza.

A report was made to the police which led to the arrest of the five suspects.

Insp Ncube said the syndicate would be taken to Mbembesi ZRP.

He appreciated information being availed by members of the public to resolve crimes.

“We are very much concerned about stock theft cases that are emanating or being perpetrated in our neighbouring districts or provinces where the meat or stock is taken into Bulawayo. These include some stock theft cases that are happening around Heany Junction where cattle are being slaughtered overnight and the meat is brought into the city.

“We would like to warn criminals that Bulawayo is not a haven for criminals,” said Insp Ncube.
