HE came, he dropped an Extended Play (EP) title Isibane, he performed, he conquered the local arts scene and everyone fell in love with him.
This year, Fab G MtshanakaGogo is ready to go again.
When he introduced his own musical genre, Umthobanhliziyo, many dismissed the lad from Old Magwegwe and said he is going nowhere.
However, he defied all odds as he managed to establish a career in the midst of the pandemic and dominated it.
2021 was successful for Fab G.
He performed and was a major feature in every gig that one can think of — Intwasa Arts Festival Ko Bulawayo, the youthful Bulawayo Arts Festival (BAF), Umahlekisa at eight years celebrations and Iyasa’s Credisi party.
He was nominated two times at the 2021 Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards (RoilBAA) for Outstanding Newcomer and Outstanding Alternative artiste.
One of his major highlights last year was signing a recording and management deal with Progressive Records courtesy of Kwaito group Stiff’s front man Diliza.
Fab G wants to maintain his legacy.
He introduced his daughter Lilo Masetshaba to the mainstream music industry as she released a single titled Ngiyalibonga Bazali Bami (written by Fab G) which was released on Masetshaba’s four years birthday on 23 November.
He is ambitious.
He wants every “slice” that can send him to bed with a full stomach.
He was crowned the winner at the Slice Pizzeria Rap competition in December and took home RTGS $20 000 in cash.
As he has done almost what he desired in 2021, Fab G believes he is ready for more in 2022.
“2021 began and ended very well for me, giving me hope and motivation that something, somewhere, somehow was about to blow. I participated in every arts festival in the city, Intwasa, BAF, Umahlekisa at eight and I am grateful.
“Getting a deal with Progressive records and releasing a hit love song titled Thatha Mi which is making waves on radio stations, got me nominated for the first time at the RoilBAAs.
“I was honoured to share the stage with South Africa superstar Big Zulu during the festive alongside Roki and Jah Signal, it was such a frightening moment for me as it was my first time to take part in such a big event, but I nailed it.
“However, 2022 is a new chapter in my life. I am not going to drop the ball; I want to stay focused on the game because I have a lot to achieve and I don’t want to disappoint my fans.
“More music and great videos are on their way,” said Fab G.
