This year’s Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards (RoilBAA) edition will not be the same compared to the previous festivities as the rise of Covid 19 cases in the city has seen the organisers scaling down the number of spectators.

The awards are set to take place on 28 November at a venue yet to be advised.

“It’s all systems go for the 4th edition of the RoilBAA. Because of the rise in Covid 19 cases, parts of the awards set-up will change for this year. The traditional nominees’ dinner will this year not happen. This is part of our efforts to adhere to Government regulations regarding the virus.

“However, in light of all this, nominees will still receive their certificates on the day of the awards,” said RoilBAA in a statement.

As most people including the nominees are longing for the red-carpet experience, the organisers have come up with strategic ways of allowing the red-carpet moments to transpire in sets of small groups.

“In the same vein of keeping attendees safe, we will stagger the arrival of nominees and their awards with nine awards every hour allowing the red carpet to be graced in small groups. We are finalising holding areas and the red carpet and event schedule,” reads a RoilBAA statement.

To accommodate more people, the awards have organised another venue for those who will be comfortable in accessing and witnessing the awards virtually and have the bliss of gracing the red carpet.

“The event will be streamed at a separate venue for a minimal fee for those wanting a red-carpet experience away from the actual awards. This event is also by pre-booking,” said RoilBAA in a statement.

For those with access to internet, streaming sites for the awards will be announced on Tuesday (22 November).

The sale of tickets starts today (Friday, 20 November) and it has to be noted that the sales are limited to very few fans who would like to experience the RoilBAA.

The general tickets are being sold for $1100, US$10 or 200 rand while the VIP tickets are going for $2200,US$20 or 400 rand.

All tickets will be sold in advance.
