BULAWAYO Chiefs were on Sunday crowned new champions of the country’s biggest knockout tournament when they edged Herentals 1-0 in an Chibuku Super Cup final played at Barbourfields Stadium.
A well-taken strike by impressive Arthur “Diego” Musiyiwa was all that the Twiiter Kings needed to bag gold medals of a tournament that has previously been dominated by FC Platinum, Harare City, Ngezi Platinum and Highlanders.
It was a match in which Chiefs enjoyed the backing of Highlanders followers.
“We are very much grateful for the support that we got from the people of Bulawayo. It was a good fight from the boys and congratulations to them,” said Chiefs assistant coach Thulani “Thuts” Sibanda.
His opposite number Kumbirai Mutiwekuziwa said: “The boys did their best and gave a good fight. Throughout the tournament the boys did well, eliminating former champions Ngezi Platinum Stars and FC Platinum as well as Manica Diamonds. Congratulations to Chiefs, they took their chance.”
