Chibuku Super Cup enters round three

THE ongoing Chibuku Super Cup competition enters round three with potentially explosive matches set for Saturday and Sunday.

Group Two matches will see log leaders Chicken Inn meet Twitter Kings Bulawayo Chiefs at Barbourfields Stadium on Saturday.

Gamecocks, who are on four points, were last weekend held to a nil-all draw by Highlanders. Chiefs are coming from a two-all draw against Philani “Beefy” Ncube-coached Bulawayo City.

City had their football gods to thank after they forced a draw against an impressive Bulawayo Chiefs.

Hughe Chikosa got the opener for Chiefs in the 18th minute before substitute Wellington Kamudyariwa converted from the spot in the 78th minute to get the equaliser for Bulawayo City.

Four minutes later, the city fathers were put in the lead by ex-Highlanders forward Mgcini Sibanda after he nodded home a Kamudyariwa corner kick.

In the dying stages of the match, Hwange-based referee Hardly Ndazi awarded a penalty to Chiefs after Wilfred Munhorwei was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box.

Substitute Billy Veremu calmly converted from the spot and rescued Chiefs from the jaws of defeat.

Chiefs finished the match one man short after their midfielder was shown a straight red card for a clumsy challenge on Bulawayo City captain Douglas Sibanda.

On Sunday, Bosso who are also on four points, will hope to get it right against Amakhosi who are yet to post a win.

“We will need to carry on from where we left against Chicken Inn. Bulawayo City are in a team rebuilding process but we will not underrate them,” said Bosso head coach Mandla “Lulu” Mpofu.

Meanwhile, Premier Soccer League (PSL) on Tuesday confirmed that following last weekend’s round of Covid-19 tests for matchday two matches, one player tested positive.

Consequently, the player was not part of matchday activities.

The player is in the process of observing a period of self-isolation in accordance with PSL, Zifa and Sports Recreation Commission (SRC) , Ministry of Health and Child Care, World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines and protocols.
