ALTHOUGH the global Covid-19 pandemic has hit all sporting disciplines, Zimbabwean boxing icon, Charles Manyuchi says he is really disappointed by the pandemic and the outcome that it has brought to the sport.

“Every boxer gets paid soon after the fight so you can imagine how tough things are. I was supposed to fight on May 4 but that proved to be impossible due to the coronavirus.

“I know it’s not only me or Zimbabwean boxers who are affected, it’s a global disaster so it’s normal. I really understand and we are trying by all means necessary to keep fi t for the next fi ght as soon as things normalise,’’ said Manyuchi.

Manyuchi said they were using his farm in Chivhu as a base for their training with other boxers from Charles Manyuchi Boxing Academy.

He said: “We are managing very well in terms of our training and we also have the coach and his assistant coming to help us here and there.

“Since the lockdown commenced all our boxers have been kept in the academy and it has (the academy) also been providing for their stay in terms of feeding and clothing,” said Manyuchi.

B-Metro Sport has learnt that the Charles Manyuchi Boxing Academy employs people in the farm as a way of assisting the community during the pandemic. “I don’t have much to offer besides creating employment especially to the vulnerable and less privileged during these hard times,” said Manyuchi.
