THE Bulawayo Metropolitan Rugby Football Board (BMRFB) will host a Rugby Sevens’ women and men selection series that will be held today and tomorrow at Hartsfield rugby grounds.

The two-day event will witness all the clubs from the city coming together to play out preliminary selection series which will culminate in a Matabeleland team being selected and the players seconded for the National Training Camp to be held on the 18th of January 2020 in Harare.

BMRFB Fixtures Secretary Simba Mandla Dangah said the Board has set in motion plans to have the games played from Friday afternoon and Saturday, with the former local Cheetahs greats making up the selection and coaching panels.

“The players have been in active rest as they have played several exhibition games in the offseason. The event will be graced by the National Cheetahs head Coach Mr Gilbert Nyamutsamba.

“Current Cheetahs players that will take part include Andrea Banda, Nelson Madida, Tarisai Mugariri, Theo Goredema Emmanuel Zangari,” said Danga.

Last year, Zimbabwe Lady Cheetahs finished eighth in the Africa Women’s sevens tournament, which served as a 2020 Olympics qualifier, while the men failed to defend their Rugby Africa Men’s Sevens title, finishing third at the tournament.

Several former Sevens greats such as Cleopas Makotose, Silethokuhle Ndlovu Japhet Ndlovu and many others have been approached to come and assist in the coaching and management of the teams.
