BULAWAYO Metropolitan Province will be taking part in this year’s edition of the annual Basketball Union of Zimbabwe (BUZ) Inter-provincial Basketball Tournament from 21 to 23 February in the capital.

This year the edition will see both men and women’s teams from the country’s provinces competing in the usual 5 versus 5 and 3×3 meets.

Basketball Union of Zimbabwe Competitions Commission president Yesaya Ignatious confirmed that the date for the inter-provincials was set and all the provinces were expected to send their respective teams.

“This edition will feature players aged between 18-23 years. Provinces will select their best teams and they will battle it out for top honours in the competition.”

“We shall select the U23 national teams from this competition and the team will be a developmental team that will be nurtured to feed in the senior national team,” said Ignatious.

The tournament is expected to bring together 10 provinces namely Bulawayo, the Midlands, Mashonaland West, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, Manicaland, Masvingo, Matabeleland South, Matabeleland North and hosts Harare.

Last month, BUZ played host to the Fiba AfroBasket pre-qualifiers that were held at the City Sports Centre in Harare from 21 to 26 January.

Team Zimbabwe failed to proceed to the next stage of the qualifiers after losing three of their four encounters.
