BULAWAYO’S Northlea High School will next Saturday and Sunday play host to the 2019 instalment of the National Association of Secondary School Heads (Nash) Under-17 handball games.
All the country’s 10 provinces are going to be represented in a tournament where Northlea and St Columbu’s will carry the hopes of Bulawayo in the boys competition that will also have Gwanda High (Matabeleland South), Binga High (Matabeleland North), Raffingora High (Mashonaland West), Prince Edward (Harare), Guinea Fowl High (Midlands), Gaza High and St Faith (both Manicaland).
According to Nash head-in-charge of handball, Lindiwe Moyo, in the girls category, Bulawayo will pin their hopes for success on Njube High and St Bernard’s High with Shangani Secondary and Filabusi High representing Matabeleland South.
Kenzamba High (Mashonaland West), Girls High (Harare), Siansundu High (Matabeleland North), Nemadziva Secondary (Manicaland), and Manyoni High (Midlands) will also fight for the top honours in the girls discipline.
“Having all handball athletes and enthusiasts coming for the games will actually motivate the participating teams. It’s our wish to see the sport grow and Bulawayo teams should greatly utilise home advantage,” said Moyo.
Last year’s national finals which were set to be held in Kariba were shelved due to the outbreak of cholera.
