Bulawayo-based pool legends and their Harare counterparts will on Saturday converge on City of Kings and Queens’ Nokkies Sports Arena for a potentially explosive challenge contest.

The tournament, which has been previously dominated by Harare pool elders, will see players aged 40 and above making up the two sides who will also clash in a return leg to be played in the capital at a date to be advised.

“As Bulawayo, we are very much glad that on Saturday, we are going to play host to an elders pool tournament that will feature Bulawayo legends against their Harare opponents.

It’s a tournament for non-professional pool players that are aged 40 and above.

The tournament has a prize money of US$2 000 and the return leg will be played in Harare at a date yet to be announced,” said Bulawayo Pool Association (BPA) publicity secretary Farai Nyandoro.

Bulawayo Legends will be under the guidance of seasoned player cum coach Terrence Mhindu and Charles Dube with evergreen BPA president Fortune Tavengwa, Quinton Rollo, Tafadzwa Muguyo and Kenny Nyandoro among others leading from the front in their quest for glory.

For them to continue on their dominance over Bulawayo, Harare will bank on the services of Vape Moyo, Ticha Daddy and Fiona Musavengane among other gifted players.

Meanwhile, last Saturday, three Bulawayo-based pool players Kholwani Tony Sibanda, Petty Sibanda and Reya “Mai Chisamba” Chitokwani made it into the Zimbabwe pool national team that will take part in the All-Africa Pool Association (AAPA) set to be played in Zambia in February next year.

A 16-member Bulawayo provisional pool team competed for places to be selected into the national team at Leisure Centre Ruwa in the capital where AAPA national team qualifiers were held.

Inobubele Nkala, Emmanuel Rapasi, Stanley Ngwenya, Lindani Gumpo, Norman Chisuwa, veteran Priscilla Chisoro, Sithembiso Dube, Kitumetsi Lynnete and Thandekile Sibanda all failed to make the grade.

In 2019, team Zimbabwe had the services of Bulawayo duo of Steven Paswani and Christine Sengwe.
