IN a fit of rage, Highlanders star player Winston Mhango (32) ran amok and hit his wife with fists and a bottle over a misunderstanding at a city bar.

The dramatic incident lasted for about 15 minutes and it happened at Cosmo nightclub last week on Friday at around 10.30 pm.

Winston parted ways with FC Platinum last year and joined Highlanders on a two-year contract.

While he was boozing with his wife, Primrose Sibanda (40), at the night spot, things took a nasty turn as a night of fun out turned into a night of domestic violence.

A source who witnessed the incident said at the height of the fracas Winston stood up and slapped his sweetheart on the face. His wife hurled insults at him and that seems to have angered him the most as he rained blows all over her body.

The source went on to say some imbibers tried to restrain him, but he overpowered them and reached for a bottle and hit his wife on the head, causing her to fall.

It had to take the strong intervention of bouncers to restrain the marauding Winston from further assaulting his wife.

The matter was reported at a police station leading to his arrest.

Winston appeared for trial before Tredgold magistrate courts’ Nomasiko Ndlovu facing a physical abuse charge.

The remorseful Winston, who once turned out for a Zambian football outfit Kabwe Warriors, pleaded guilty to the charge saying he acted out of anger.

In his mitigation, he said he was a father of two minor children and if he was sent to jail his family would be plunged into hardship.

In arriving at the sentence the magistrate considered that Winston did not waste the court’s time and he was a first time offender and a father of two minor children.

He was fined $10 000 and should he fail to pay it he will spend three months in jail.
