A HIGHLANDERS benefactor who pledged to purchase a vehicle for the senior team captain has assured the club that the car will be delivered before the start of the 2021 Premier Soccer League season, which is expected to commence in March.

During a ceremony last year, where he handed over groceries to players and members of the technical team at the club offices, Prophet Emmanuel Mutumwa pledged to donate a vehicle for use by the club captain.

A few months after making the pledge, the clergyman has come under fire from social media users who wanted to know when he would make good on his promise.

“The process to import the vehicle had started soon after I made the pledge to purchase the car for the Highlanders captain, but the country was placed under a second national lockdown at the beginning of the year and all our plans were put on hold.

“As soon as the situation goes back to normal, the vehicle will be delivered to Highlanders so that their captain can use it. I hope things will get back to normal sooner rather than later so that I can deliver on the promise that I made to the club,” Prophet Mutumwa told B-Metro Sport.

The 2021 PSL season is expected to start in March if recommendations by the national football mother body, Zifa, for the commencement of football activities are given the green light by the Government.

Club chairman Kenneth Mhlophe said the Bulawayo giant’s doors remain open for anyone who wants to assist the club.

“We made it through the year 2020, a very difficult year for football in general, because of the assistance rendered by our benefactors and in that spirit of giving, we say our doors are always open to anyone who wants to assist the club,” said Mhlophe.

A few years ago, the South Africa supporters’ chapter purchased a vehicle that is used by the Highlanders head coach. Former coaches Elroy Akbay, Madinda Ndlovu and Mark Harrison have all used the vehicle during their time with Bosso.
