CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer League top goal scorer Fortune Binzi says his target is to countiue doing well for his club Manica Diamonds.

With nine rounds of matches having being played so far in the country’s elite football league, Binzi, is now on eight goals, a development that translated to a strike rate of 1.1 goals per match.

Last weekend, the pint-sized striker grabbed a last minute brace for the diamond miners when they thumped visiting Chicken Inn in a match that was played at Triangle’s Gibbo Stadium.

It was Gamecocks first defeat of the season.

“I just want to thank my teammates for all the necessary support. For me it’s not all about individual achievements, I’m playing for the team. I need to assist others to score to help our club win more games,” said Binzi who was last Friday named Footballers Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ) April Player of the Month.

He beat Highlanders captain and goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda, Bulawayo Chiefs midfielder Mthokozisi Msebe, Hwange striker Brighton Makopa and Dynamos wonder boy Tanaka Shandirwa for the April award.

Asked about his player’s fine goal scoring form, Manica Diamonds head coach Jairos Tapera reckoned: “It’s always good to have players that fight and score for the team. Binzi just needs to remain modest and continue working hard. I foresee a very fruitful season for him.”
