South Africa-based Zimbabwean artiste Bothwell “Bekezela” Nkomo is set to celebrate his birthday on 6 December in style as he will be releasing a single titled Uluju.
The single, which will be the first pre-release from his much-anticipated project titled UnguThixo, will be dropped with visuals.
Bekezela, who has in previous years, held gigs with numerous celebrated Afro soul artistes performing, will this year do a different presentation with only a few artistes he has worked with in his career performing.
A media launch where celebrations will be held, will be held at Hongula restaurant (former News Café) in Sandton, a place where Bekezela used to work as a waiter before fame.
“On my birthday I will be releasing Uluju which is the first single to be released on my coming Extended Play (EP) UnguThixo which will be released in May 2021. The song is an up-tempo composition which is in line with what the current season (festive) needs.
“The single will be a way of how I have rebranded as Bekezela and the up-tempo initiative was inspired by different projects I have worked on with other artistes from other genres,” said Bekezela who featured on Mobi Dixon’s latest album The Chapel on the song Vumani.
On the media launch, Bekezela revealed he would also be announcing different stakeholders that partnered his Bekezela Music Company. The platform would also be used to relaunch Bekezela as a brand.
“The celebration will be a way of showing how I have evolved as a brand, changing the tone and the mood for my upcoming album. I have also partnered with a number of companies with one of them being an international distribution deal with Ziiki Media.
“It has to be noted that this gig will be held at Hongula Restaurant which is a place where I used to work as a waiter when it was still News Café. Importantly I have partnered with the restaurant on a deal which will see me doing unplugged gigs at the place every Sunday starting next year,” said Bekezela.
In light of Covid-19, Bekezela revealed the gig would comply with lockdown restrictions.
“This is not a huge gig like I used to do on my previous birthday celebrations but I will be having few artistes, those I have worked with like Candy TsaMandebele, Berita Khumalo, Mobi Dixon, to mention a few,” he said.
