Basketball Association celebrates with Bosso

BASKETBALL fans will get an opportunity to join the Highlanders Football Club anniversary celebrations a�� albeit on the basketball court a�� when 10 teams take to the Khanyisile Sports Centre on Saturday morning.

 

Khanyisile Sports Centre was formerly known as the Bulawayo Club for the Disabled (BCD).

THE Bulawayo Basketball Association (BBA) through one of its affiliates, Highlanders Basketball Club, is spearheading the basketball festival that forms part of the Bosso@90 Sports Festival.

Four other sporting disciplines that include football, darts, volleyball and netball will be competed in the two-day sports gala.

a�?Highlanders Football Club is a successful sports entity and as BBA we are humbled to be part of their 90th anniversary celebrations. Ita��s a huge achievement, 90 years of existence is no mean feat and we could not afford to be left out of such an event,a�? explained BBA spokesperson Howard Phangwana.

Highlanders Football Club was formed in 1926 and has lined up festivities that will run until year end to mark its 90th anniversary.

In the mena��s category Highlanders, Southern Mavericks, Oilers, Lupane State University and Giants had confirmed participation by Wednesday afternoon.

Highlanders and Lakers had confirmed in the ladies category while National University of Science and Technology (Nust), Angels and Lakers had indicated interest in taking part.

Teams that come tops in both categories will receive trophies sourced by the eventa��s organising committee while the BBA will provide match officials for the day.

Teams will use the weekend tournament to gauge their strengths ahead of the BBA league that starts on the weekend of 14 to 16 October.
