After becoming the first Zimbabwe-based artiste to sign under Def Jam Africa late last year, Tafadzwa Tarukwana also known as Asaph, is set to prove himself to the continent as he will be releasing his much anticipated Extended Play (EP) under the giant label.

The EP is titled Big Mhofu and it will be released by the end of September.

As a teaser to the project, Asaph released a single titled Thebelele featuring another young new Def Jam signee Loki (South Africa) this year in April, and the joint has proven to be a Hip Hop lovers’ favourite.

Describing the making of the upcoming project, Asaph said the collective was a journey of learning from life lessons and creating pure artistry from those experiences.

“Music for me is about the life that you live in between the songs and you are able to write from the experiences you have been going through. It was basically my life, everything I have faced, overcome and everything that had to be achieved for me to get here,” said Mambo, as he is also known.

Lately, social media ran abuzz over Asaph not releasing music like he used to do.

As word in the street says the Def Jam deal constrained Asaph from doing more, from the horse’s mouth he says he does not see the signing as a bragging statement but a stepping stone to achieve bigger things in life.

“Not everyone is happy that I am signed with Def Jam, some were asking on social media that why am I not releasing any stuff, with some dismissing me as down on the drain.

“However, some are excited about the whole signing and they understand that I am on a different playing field and as a stable we have goals that we want to achieve that is why releasing music has to be strategic,” said Asaph.
