FOOTBALL analyst Sakheleni Nxumalo has raised concern over the inclusion of some players in the final 23-man Warriors Squad for the Afcon finals which kick off on January 9.
Coach Norman Mapeza named his final squad for the competition this week with Knowledge Musona set to captain the squad.
The team left for the competition on Thursday with five Europe-based players set to join the rest of the squad in Cameroon. These are Jordan Zemura, Alec Mudimu, Admiral Muskwe, David Moyo and Tino Kadewere.
“Personally, I have reservations over the inclusion of the UK-based players who are going to fly straight to Cameroon. We are not talking of Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane that we see performing in the top light EPL.
“We are talking about some players who are playing in the lower divisions. Therefore, it’s difficult even for our Warriors technical team to have a clear picture of how they are performing,” said Nxumalo.
“l feel there is a danger that we might get to Cameroon only to discover that some of the boys are carrying knocks or they are not match fit because they did have enough time to play some games leading to a big disadvantage to us,” he added.
Nxumalo believes the front pairing of Prince Dube and Tino Kadewere can deliver the goods for Zimbabwe at the finals.
“In Dube and Kadewere we have two players who can really deliver well although they have a slight problem in that they are injury-prone hence our success is determined on how the coach sets up the team. But l feel having them upfront will give us results,” he said.
Zimbabwe are in group B together with Senegal, Guinea and Malawi. They open their campaign against Senegal on January 10.
