A SELF-PROCLAIMED prophet based in Bulawayo’s Makokoba suburb that claims to be the late popular Chipinge n’anga Sekuru Ndunge’s son has been dragged to court after he allegedly disappeared with two cellphones belonging to his client.

It is said Tapiwa Ndunge who lives in Makokoba allegedly phoned his client Norren Kasese (38) to pray for her son who was feeling a bit under the weather.

Believing in the spiritual powers of her prophet Kasese who lives in Mpopoma flats rushed with her son to be prayed for at the prophet’s rented house in Makokoba suburb.

When she got there the prophet prayed for her sick child and after the prayer session, the prophet allegedly told her that he also repairs cellphones, a source close to investigations said.

The unsuspecting Kasese allegedly left her two cellphones — Mobicel and Itel. The value of the stolen property is $5 950.

It is said he told her to come after a day promising her that he would have fixed the cellphones.

But to her shock when she phoned him on the fateful day, he gave an excuse and told her to be patient, said a source.

What worried Kasese is that the last time she tried to call him his mobile number went straight to voicemail, said the source.

Kasese said she looked for him at his place but could not find him as it was said he had left to attend to his clients.

“I went to his place several times but I could not find him as I was told he had gone to attend to his clients,“ she said.

Luckily she met him by chance while she was walking in town.

“I informed a police officer who swiftly stepped in and arrested him,” said Kasese.

He appeared at Western Commonage magistrates’ court before magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube.

He pleaded not guilty to the theft charge.

He was remanded out of custody to next week for commencement of trial.

In another related incident in 2019, Isaac Makuyana Ndunge who was aged 37 at the time claimed to be the late popular Chipinge n’anga Sekuru Ndunge’s son, reportedly sold two cellphones which belonged to his clients — Simbisai Zimbodza (35) and Sylvia Njanji (32).

The magistrate at the time, Lizwe Jamela sentenced him to 24 months behind bars. Six months were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offence within a period of five years, another three months were suspended on condition that he restitutes Njanji $530 on or before 30 September 2019.
