BULAWAYO’S Ajax Hotspurs Handball Club’s men and women’s handball teams were once again crowned champions of the third edition of the Blissmass Handball Academy Clubs tournament that was held at the United College of Education (UCE) during the weekend.
Both Ajax were in their best form throughout the tournament, displaying their prowess in the court, outclassed all their opponents and showed that last year’s dominance was no fluke.
The tournament that had two men and three women teams taking part, saw National University of Science and Technology (Nust) being runners-up in the men’s category while Midlands State University (MSU) were runners-up in the women’s category.
Ajax Hotspurs’ coach, Cephas Mushati, said the tournament came at the right time as his teams were still very much involved in the ongoing southern region league games.
Ajax Hotspurs men and women’s teams are currently on top of the log standings of the Southern Region hand ball league and remain unbeaten with six games played, recording six wins, with no loss.
“I was overwhelmed by the performance from both teams from our club. I am happy for the wins and I hope that they will play with the same intensity up to the end of the league.
“Although the turnout of the teams was not what we were expecting, we are pleased with the teams that came through,” said Mushati.
