A 48-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested after he sexually assaulted his six-year-old child on several occasions causing her to discharge a whitish fluid from her private parts and walk with difficulty.

A family member who declined to be named said the mother of the minor left the minor in the custody of her husband to look for a job in South Africa in January this year.

The source said the 48-year-old man slept in the same room with his daughter, he slept on the bed while she slept on the floor.

It is said sometime in May this year the sex offender would wake up during the dead of the night and sneak into the blankets of the minor and sexually assault her.

After the initial sexual attack in May, the sex attacker took a break, in June he resumed his sexual assault. It is alleged that during the month of June he raped the minor thrice, causing her to discharge whitish fluid from her private parts.

The minor informed her father that she was discharging whitish fluid, her father took her to a clinic for treatment.

While he was at the clinic, a nurse got suspicious after observing that the minor was walking with difficulty.

“She took her into another room and interviewed her, the minor spilled the beans revealing that she was raped by her father. She told the nurse that her father raped her once in May but she cannot recall the date and he also raped her thrice in June and twice in July. And she did not tell anyone,” said the source.

The source added: “The concerned nurse reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the man.”

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident: “I can confirm that we arrested a 48-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting his six-year-old daughter while his wife was in South Africa.”

Insp Ncube applauded the gesture that was displayed by the nurse who reported the matter to the police and encouraged other members of the public to emulate that.

“We would like to thank the concerned nurse who reported the matter to the police, we encourage other community members to report such crimes rather than to sweep them under the carpet,” he said.
